requirements for graduating with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma
and how ISNA High School enables students to fulfil these requirements.
He highlighted special programs and facilities of ISNA High School and
shared some of the success stories of ISNA High students. He also
outlined the school's expectations from students, which include
willingness by students to work hard and to accept responsibility for
meeting the school's high standards of behaviour, strict discipline, good
etiquette and manners.
Students from the elementary schools were treated to lunch and taken on a tour of the physical environment of the school.
Visiting students, teachers and parents showed a great deal of
interest and asked penetrating questions concerning what to expect
if students enrol at ISNA High School for the next school year.

Student Council
ISNA High School students expressed an interest in establishing a Student Council at the school. Sister Lubna Ahmed, in a
presentation to
students, outlined the objective and importance of having a student
council, explained the responsibilities of council members, and outlined
different models for electing members.
Students are presently preparing posters and pamphlets as part of an
election campaign for the positions of president and other Student
Council positions. Excitement is high as students and teachers await
election day, which will be held in the near future.
Insha'Allah, the Student Council will provide a forum for students to
develop and practice leadership skills, good citizenship and social
responsibility.
Thank you, Sister Lubna Ahmed, for leading this venture!
War Child Canada and the IRAQ War
Sister Asma Benaissa and Brother Adnan, a husband/wife team of
volunteers, in a special assembly at ISNA High School outlined the work
of War Child Canada in raising awareness and support for war-affected
children and youth globally. The team encouraged students to
explore various possibilities to assist affected communities to overcome
hardships brought about by war.
Students at ISNA High are considering various options and projects to assist children in Iraq. Thank you, Sister Marya
Naeem, for
leading this group!
Muslim Role Models at ISNA
On May 6, 2003, we were pleased to welcome Police Constable Mulham Tayara and Staff Sergeant Jamal Khan from the Toronto
Police
Service, 11 Division, at ISNA High School. Constable Tayara and
Sergeant Khan made a presentation, followed by a question and answer
session, describing their roles and responsibilities with the Toronto
Police Force and sharing some of their experiences. The officers
encouraged students to consider joining the force as a career option.
Students found the session highly stimulating and gained useful
knowledge and information on the functioning of the police force.
ISNA High Girls' Halaqa
Al-hamdulillah, a new halaqa for girls was established at ISNA High School in March. This optional study circle is led by Sister
Heba Attia.
The halaqa provides students with a safe and guided environment in
which to explore Islam in greater depth and addresses topics that affect
the daily life of young Muslim women in Canada. It also serves as a
non-classroom forum for the girls to bond and develop the spirit of
Islamic sisterhood.
With approximately 60% of girls enrolled in the school participating,
these weekly lunch hour sessions have been educational, dynamic,
spiritually challenging and uplifting.
Masha' Allah!
Year-End Wrap-Up
Students are expected to clear out their lockers by June 23, 2003 and to return their textbooks on the respective examination days,
prior to

recent changes.

it to people; learn your religious obligations and teach them to people;
learn the Qur'an and teach it to people'. (Darimi)
The Principal and staff of ISNA High School wish all
students and parents a pleasant and relaxing summer.
